The TKO is a quantitative measure utilized to assess the stopping power of a cartridge, incorporating factors such as bullet weight, caliber, and velocity.

Sectional density, defined as the ratio of a bullet's weight to its caliber, serves as a comparative measure for evaluating penetration potential. It is important to note that sectional density does not account for variables such as bullet material, velocity, or impact angle. Generally, bullets characterized by higher sectional density exhibit greater penetration capabilities when subjected to identical conditions pertaining to velocity, material composition, target characteristics, and impact angle.

The calculated cartridges can be conveniently displayed within a database of common handgun cartridges, with appropriate rankings established based on energy, TKO, or IPSC factor.
